Enchanted Highway

Where to Park the RV: B&M RV Park

In the southwestern quadrant of North Dakota, you’ll find a 30-mile stretch of two-lane highway featuring giant metal sculptures. Gary Greff, the artist behind the enchantment, created seven mesmerizing installments that make your trip off the interstate worthwhile. Take in:

  • Geese in Flight.
  • Fisherman’s Dream.
  • Pheasants on the Prairie.
  • Teddy Roosevelt Rides Again.
  • Tin Family.

While you’re in Regent, ND, at the Enchanted Highway Gift Shop registering for an overnight RV spot, be sure to grab a few souvenirs for the road and a made-to-order pizza from Cannonball Saloon.

Lake Sakakawea

Where to Park the RV: Lake Sakakawea State Park

Regarded as one of the most popular fishing spots in this region of the country, Lake Sakakawea is a must-stop spot for RVers that love to fish. This expansive lake offers more shoreline than the state of California, meaning you’ll have plenty of walleye to catch and all the space in the world to do it.

This expansive natural area offers much more than just boating and fishing. On shore, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for birding. Work up an appetite on the section of the 4,600-mile North Country National Scenic Trail closest to the lake before grabbing an ice cream cone at the Crab Apple in Pick City.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Where to Park the RV: Cottonwood Campground

Named after perhaps the most famous conservationist in American history, Theodore Roosevelt National Park encompasses a vast section of badlands in southwestern North Dakota. Young Teddy visited the area that would become this national park in 1883—what he didn’t know then was how drastically this buffalo hunt would change the course of American history.

The park is broken down into three unique units with all kinds of experiences to behold. Hike through the Grand Canyon of the Little Missouri, get a closer look at wildlife in the South Unit, and stargaze after the sun goes down.
