2021 Airstream Basecamp Review
Basecamp—it’s your home away from home while you’re out on the road. It’s the start and finish point of every mini adventure along the way. It’s where you can relax, unwind, and reflect on the lasting memories you’ve made and a comfortable place to make more.
It’s with all this in mind that Airstream designed the 2021 Basecamp travel trailer. In this review, our team at Mark Wahlberg RV will give RV shoppers near Columbus, Grove City, and Dublin a virtual tour of what this model has to offer.
Overview: 2021 Airstream Basecamp
The 2021 Airstream Basecamp classifies as a lightweight travel trailer that can be towed by most SUVs and trucks. It offers four different configurations: the 16, 16X, 20, and 20X. The differences among these models are foundational—see how they different in size and weight below:

Basecamp 16 vs 20: Water Storage
Another noticeable difference to consider between these floorplans is water. With the Basecamp 16 and 16X, you’ll have a 21-gallon freshwater tank for your shower, sink, and toilet. You’ll be able to store plenty of water for weekend trips and road trips with frequent stops.
The larger Basecamp 20 and 20X models offer a 27-gallon freshwater tank plus a 28-gallon gray water tank and a 21-gallon black water tank. With black and gray water storage, you’ll be able to stay on the road for extended periods of time, making this larger model the ideal choice for longer and more isolated trips.
Four Floor Plans, Endless Enjoyment
Regardless of which Basecamp configuration you go with, you’ll enjoy flowing functionality throughout the entirety of the interior. Each floor plan includes at least one full-size bed that can be disassembled to be used as comfortable seating space.
In the 20-foot models, you’ll have a stationary dinette at the front end of the trailer. If you’re sleeping at full capacity, accommodate two additional people by converting this dinette into a bed as well.
All four configurations are also fitted out with the amenities you need to feel at home anywhere. Your kitchenette will include a microwave, refrigerator, and plenty of storage. On the counter, you’ll have a sink and two-burner gas stove, each with a tempered glass cover that can be folded down to give you the most counterspace possible for food prep.
Striking Style with New-Age Twists
The 2021 Airstream Basecamp was designed with the riveted aluminum superstructure that the brand has been known for across generations. However, its reimagined shape and modern design give it an edge when it comes to versatility.
Its slightly tear-dropped shape maximizes the aerodynamics of the trailer, making it effortless to pull. The panoramic front windows give it a sleek symmetrical look from the outside and bring the beauty of the outdoors to the forefront while you’re enjoying your morning coffee or the stars at night. Plus, you’ll get a large rear hatch door for easy gear loading.
Inside the trailer, you’ll enjoy all the comforts of home including built-in heating and cooling systems, conveniently placed USB charging ports, and ample storage options for your items.
